Like his older brother Carl, Leo Gans was born in Hamburg, Germany. His education included George Washington High School – NYC; Pre Engineering – NYU; Civil Engineering – Virginia Polytechnic Institute; Chemical Engineering – Columbia University (BS 1949, MS 1950).
Professionally Leo was VP & General Manager of Anchor Plastics Co, Long Island City, NYC, a custom plastic and tubing extruder serving the automotive, TV, writing, and medical industries for 25 years; then president & CEO of Action Technology, Division of Dart & Kraft (a NY Stock Exchange company). The company supplied the aerosol and pump dispenser, writing instruments, swimming pool, and medical device industries, with extruded plastic tubing and rubber gaskets manufactured in ten U.S. and European locations. He is a holder of four patents on corrugated tubing for swimming pool, vacuum cleaner, and medical device applications. Leo retired in 1998 and started Gans Tech Associates, consultants.
In addition to his professional experience Leo volunteered in various nonprofit and governmental organizations as president of the Teaneck Political Assembly, chairman of the Teaneck Township Advisory Board of Ethics, president of the local B’nai B’rith Lodge, chairman of the Teaneck UJA campaign, chairman of the United Jewish Community of Bergen County Exodus and two subsequent Israel Emergency Campaigns.
